Stratomatic Baseball: Back to the 80′s features a Mystery Card component where each player get’s one card out of 5 possible pre-selected years. You never find out which card you get until the end of the season. There are some ways to figure out which card you have during the season:

Injuries

1. If a batter is injured, review the play by play. Make a note of the play and the handedness of the pitcher. Let’s say the batter was injured by a HBP and he was facing a left-handed pitcher. Review each year of your batter card to check to see what years have a HBP + injury against left-handed pitchers.

2. In a DH league, pitchers can only get injured while they are facing an opposing DH. The injury would occur if the roll is 6-12. Look at your pitcher’s card for the hand of the batter he faces and see if the 6-12 result matches the play by play results. This may help eliminate cards and narrow down what season you may have.

3. Take note of a player’s number of injured games. If card has more than 600 plate appearances a player can’t get injured more than three games.

Lefty/Righty splits

1. Everything is about ratios. Compare a batter’s splits on baseball-reference.

2. Study K/BB ratios for hitters and pitchers.
