Secret draft results page revealed

March 26, 2009

One day I was reading the source page of the Front Office page for my Stratomatic Online League.  I don’t remember why I was viewing the HTML source in the first place but I discovered a URL link that was commented.  I haven’t checked to see if this link is still viewable but it was only visible after waivers and disappeared when the league started.  This URL is http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/draft/draft_results.html.  This page shows a list of all players that were requested by multiple teams.  The results also show which team landed the player and substitutes that were given to the other teams that requested the same player.

Here are the draft results from my current league.  Six teams, including my team (Timlins), went after Brian ShouseEdinson Volquez was another popular choice with four requests.  Surprisingly,  only two managers, including myself, tried to land Manny Ramirez!

Results from one of my Back to the 80′s league:
Chris Bando
– 5 requests
Tim Burke – 6 requests
Robin Yount – 5 requests

I suppose one of the reasons why SportingNews decided to leave this page out was to prevent managers from learning  the draft patterns used by the system.  The draft order is random so I don’t think anyone would gain much of an advantage with this information.  Nevertheless, it’s interesting to analyze.

UPDATE:  Unfortunately, SportingNews had to shut the page down due to some complaints.

fyi… I guess we’re not in the same league after all. Seems the link allowed me to view MY draft results, not yours..

William: Another great script! Your usual fine work. Viewing draft results, how many claims were made on various players and how conflicts were resolved is all very interesting and is a big help in future drafts. I can only get this script to work on the ATG4 league I was in, which was my first league. I’ve been in two leagues since then, an ’80s league, which will be completing the playoffs around 7-20-09, and a ’70s league, which will be starting play 7-20-09. I can’t get the script to show the draft results for either the ’80s league or the ’70s league. Any suggestions? – Bernie Ward

That was really cool. Now I know who covets the players I missed out on…. Semper Fi!

Looks like the links for the draft doesn’t work anymore for the newer leagues. Anyway you can find out how to resolve this?

Thanks a lot for your site.

Hey Marcus Wilby,

Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can really do. Hopefully, TSN will bring it back one of these days.
